OTHER Recyclables
#5 Plastic
The Weavers Way Co-op Environment Committee accepts #5 plastics, which are not included in the City’s recycling program. This category includes yogurt cups, sour cream containers, hummus tubs, some medicine bottles, and more. The collected #5 plastics are sent to Gimme 5, a program recently set up by Recycline - a Massachusetts company that makes the Preserve line of products from 100% recycled materials - to enable people to recycle their Preserve toothbrushes and other #5 plastics.
Collection days for #5 plastics will be on the third Saturday of the month, beginning April 18, 2009, from 10 AM to 1 PM. The collection location will be 542 Carpenter Lane, across the street from Weaver's Way and a bit further down the block from the Big Blue Marble bookstore (has stonework facade & black garage door).
There will be no collection in August 2009. Please check back soon for dates and locations beginning in September 2009.
Before bringing your #5s to the collection, be sure that they meet the requirements for Gimme 5:
A small donation (75 cents suggested) is requested with each drop-ff to help cover the cost of shipping to a processing center in New York state.
